Importance of energy conservation with ALS #
It is very common to experience fatigue with ALS – client’s bodies are working harder to complete daily tasks, attend appointments, and make important decisions. It is important for OTs to provide energy conservation strategies to help clients continue doing the activities and experiences that they enjoy while limiting their fatigue. See the Handouts Section below for Energy Conservation Strategies that can be discussed with clients.
Other ideas for energy conservation

- Ensure clients apply for an accessible parking permit
- Discuss with clients about asking for help from caregivers, or a referral to referral to Home and Community Care Support Services for Personal Support Workers for personal care (dressing and bathing)
